“When was the last time you did something for the first time?”
21.097kms – The most memorable number, which marked a milestone in my life.
After my first ever 10km run in Pinkathon, Dec 2014, I decided to “ACCEPT NO LIMITS”. Luck by chance; Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2015 gave me the opportunity to challenge myself and make difference in someone’s life by running for Mahindra’s Nanhi Kali. Not only did I run with the Mahindra family, but also with my dad who is my inspiration – now and forever! (Finished 21km with dad)
Lazy Sunday morning turned into the most energetic and enthusiastic one with the streets of Mumbai seeing vast crowd on roads than the usual traffic jams. 40K+ people participated in the marathon with international athletes and celebrities marking their presence with the Mumbaikars.
What really touched me was the spirit of Mumbaikars in helping their city folk. All through the race route, children and senior citizens, men and women, rich and poor were lined up, not just cheering but serving sweets, candies, fruits and home-made energy bars for strangers like me. Some even stood there with their medical and first-aid boxes open for the runners to help themselves.
I felt an ocean of gratitude and pride as I ran in Mumbai for Nanhi Kali – “I’m a Proud Mumbaikar. “
Good for you for racing in Mumbai. I would love to run somewhere like that with such energetic crowds.
